America the Right Way -Staying Vigilant-13 months left January 16-20, 2012 – Remember 9/11

Hello!

Initial reports implicate the Captain of the ill-fated cruise ship which ran aground off the coast of Italy this weekend.

And with 7+ days to go til the S.C. primary, superPACs are spending lots of money on attack ads…and there is this: a rumor that Stephen Colbert may run for President. Publicity anyone?

ED not hearing the music when you click the link? Are your speakers turned up to the proper level?

    • edinva says:

Molly, when I click the youtube links I get the music, but not with the dancing characters. You KNOW I am a puter dunce! BTW, the Jimmy Stewart “funniest joke” at one of the links IS funny.

  2. The Raven says:

Why use ‘despicable,’ clueless left-wing media to moderate GOP debates?

There is growing consternation in Republican circles and among conservatives over why Republicans keep allowing the various Communist, leftist and otherwise anti-American TV networks to host GOP debates.

The ickiness of Diane Sawyer asking questions in her cloying voice is more than most can bear. …..[ snip ]

Only a few more months ’till the end of the Obama experiment

  5. Molly Pitcher says:

Well….winter has finally arrived, and wow do I appreciate the wonderful respite we had in Dec. and the first half of January!

  6. The Raven says:

Just when I thought Newt was hitting it out of the park once again, it got better. This is worth a look. He’s becoming Tebow

    • Molly Pitcher says:

      What a food fight!

I appreciate Gingrich’s combativeness….I just don’t know if he can keep it under control, and use it wisely and in the appropriate ways and at the appropriate times.

    • edinva says:

I went to the link, the screen w/pic of Newt and the arrow came up, I clicked and nothing! I’m really hating CNN. Last night I couldn’t watch cause it’s online streaming required some user name/password info for one’s home cable. I don’t have cable, only online tv. So it was a frustrating night. I’m sure I’ll see it yet.

In any case, GOOD MORNING, everyone. Beautiful, chilly Winter morn here in Northern VA. Possible ‘wintry mix’ tonight. And, it’s the weekend (after a short work week)! TGIF.

    • lysie says:

I’m not sure if the question to Newt was inappropriate. Perhaps, it should have been asked after the important issues were discussed.

I can’t help but wonder if it would have been asked at all if it was about Obama. I think they would put their tales between their legs an run away. They don’t have the nerve. Need proof??

My Chinese friends are almost off for the new year

They told me this year is a dragon.

I told them last year was slow, as well.

  8. Molly Pitcher says:

That could very well be queenie

  9. queenie says:

Now that I think more about it, since Perry and Newt are friends, instead of dropping out after IA, they decided that this timing would be more to Newt’s benefit. ???

  10. queenie says:

Perry will drop out today and endorse Newt.
    Interesting timing.

  11. Molly Pitcher says:

    Hello!

    Slow start this a.m..

Yes, Gingrich and Romney’s sheltered gazillions are being examined today….way more in 24 hours than 0’s record/associations ever were by the MSM in the months before the Nov ’08 election

  12. The Raven says:

Morning quote from the WSJ on Keystone:

Environmentalists seem to think they can prevent the development of Canada’s oil-rich tar sands, and that their rallies against Keystone XL will keep that carbon in the ground. They can’t, and it won’t. America’s largest trading partner will simply build a pipeline to the Pacific coast from Alberta and sell its petroleum products to Asia instead, China in particular.

Such green delusions are sad, and Mr. Obama’s pandering is sadder, though everything the country stands to lose is saddest.

    • queenie says:

      Good morning, Rav.
Hope crazy environmentalists help to make O look real bad and stupid.
Newt is getting dumped on big time on morning radio today.
And what do ya know…….Santorum won Iowa by 34 votes but results will never be certified because some votes have been lost. Huh?

    • lysie says:

      Spitefull little man o is.

    • tillacum says:

I often ask, how do the anti-petro people travel around, how do they heat & cool their abodes. We know the grifter in our whitehouse burns millions of gallons of petro using AF1, each month, and his heavily armored bus and limo, they use a LOT of gas. BUT he did warn us, and we didn’t listen, “We have the greatest country in the world, and we need to change it”, or words to that effect. I just hope the Canadians wait until after the inauguration to begin putting in the oil line…to Houston.

  13. The Raven says:

Levin’s book has been shipped and should be in my mailbox tomorrow

  14. Molly Pitcher says:

Keystone pipeline reported to be killed Has this announcement actually been made?

  15. Molly Pitcher says:

I didn’t realize it, but SC’s primary is Sat. not next Tues., and there’s another debate tomorrow night…I did know that.

  16. lysie says:

    WOW!!
As a cold front went through CNY, sensors on the Carrier Dome measured a wind gust of 105 mph Tuesday night.

    • edinva says:

lysie, sure is sounding rough up your way … amazing you’re still connected to the internet! Hope the worst of it is over for you. We’re having winds, but NOTHING comparatively. Comparatively it’d be a light breeze.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

That storm went a long way from west to east.. the winds became strong here about 4 pm., and died down about 2 hours later. TWC was watching the system cross PA and NY, and predicted Syracuse would get hit about 8:30.

My immediate area seems to be ok, but I heard there were limbs and a tree down a couple of miles from here, and another area s.w. was without power last night

    • edinva says:

oh, I DID hear on radio we had an earthquake rumble overnight. Missed it completely. zzzzzzzzzzz.

    • lysie says:

Well, ed and Molly, right now the sun is out and it’s spitting snow. Go figure.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

My browser has joined the Wikipedia boycott! But I was able to get around it 🙂

  17. lysie says:

The Food Stamp President ?? Shout it loud. Let that phrase stick.

  18. lysie says:

The wind was/is horrible. There is one tree down on a house nearby. Thankfully, it doesn’t look like there is much damage. Poor guy. He bought the house a couple years ago and has done a great job sprucing it up….house and landscaping. He appears to be a hard worker so this may not be much of a problem for him.

  19. Molly Pitcher says:

    Good morning!

I’m falling the weather in the n.w….those people are not used to such large amounts of snow in one storm, unless maybe in the Cascades.

    That looks delicious…the breakfast..

  20. Molly Pitcher says:

I had grilled salmon – a smaller portion option – with grilled vegetables which were: asparagas, mushrooms and artichokes…very tasty.

My husband had beef – the name escapes me – with a different group of vegetables.

  21. edinva says:

oops, missed the update. Can you bring the sausages/peppers, etc. to Virginia instead?

  22. lysie says:

Our plans have changed. I will not be making dinner for Dad. Can we say right hand doesn’t know what left hand is doing? Sheesh!

  23. lysie says:

    What did you order?

I’m making roasted Italian sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms and potatoes later to take to my Dad. My brother and sil will be at the hospital. My sil’s sister is having an operation.

We are having rain and warmer temps, but that will change later today, so they say.

  24. Molly Pitcher says:

Lots of rain here…then a steep drop in temps…

We went out to eat last night…to a place we should go to more often: nice portion choices, close, cozy, and delicious foo excellent, fast service.

  25. Prairie says:

Goooood evening everybody. Hope all are doing well and not getting entirely bogged down in politics. We need some health breaks away from it, especially when it’s 24 hour election coverage every single day.

And just wait until the general election campaigning gets started. It’s gonna be uuuugggglly.

We have been doing fine here, praise the Lord, no real sickness…..others have had some serious bouts with chest congestion. So, we’re keeping up with several activities now that the “season” is in full swing.

Mitt Romney is about to sew it up, su-prize, su-prize. Even Andrew Breitbart was just on with Lou Dobbs saying that tea partiers and conservatives are becoming pragmatic in nominating Mitt. We have been fairly certain since waaaay back that Romney would get the GOP nod. It’s his turn, afterall……

I’d have hated to have been on that cruise ship and Carnival Cruises is going to lose a bundle on this. Honestly though, is getting on an Italian based cruise ship a smart thing to begin with?? I’m just sayin’…..

  26. edinva says:

Hi, all. lysie, God love you. To maintain good cheer against the elements, and to make such beautiful breakfasts at the same time, shows a remarkable attitude.

Well, the long birthday weekend has come to a close, ending our family’s seemingly endless parade of holidays, birthdays and anniversaries. Hallelujah. Now to settle in for a long winter’s nap. One new birthday to celebrate, however. A new grand-nephew arrived yesterday. ‘Jack’ weighed in at 8 lbs/8 ozs, exactly what his twin girl cousins, born 12/15/11, weighed in at combined!

A year from now, DC will be into Inaugural Week. Will WE be celebrating? Or mourning? The thought of O having a 2nd term without having to face re-election just scares me to death. It’s a shame to see how vulnerable he is, and how incapable the Republicans are at coming together to defeat him. Folks forget that Clinton was vulnerable at this point in his presidency and the GOP managed to flubb that one, too. It’s a gift, I tell ya! The ‘his turn’ business in the GOP just has to stop.

    • mustknowhistory says:

If Zero gets a second term, I will have to just stop paying attention. Maybe take a course at the local university….The stress is just too much.

  27. Bitwhacker says:

    ‘Morning everyone!

Working at home until my car is fixed, hopefully on Tues. afternoon.

OK, I have a question on the Bain thing that I just can’t reconcile in my head and maybe someone here can help.

What I don’t get is how an ‘equity firm’ can take over a ‘failing’ or ‘weak’ company, one that everyone agrees isn’t really in danger of going under yet but is ‘under-performing,’ then said firm ratchets up debt and issues bonds (more debt) so as to extract a ‘payout’ for the firm itself, then dump the equity when it is determined that the company can no longer survive — and yet the pension fund is destroyed.

How does the pension fund, which is supposed to be maintained by the company as a steward, with strict rules as to how and when the fund can be touched, suddenly disappear after all this activity supposedly done to ‘save’ the company?

The ‘When Mitt Came to Town’ video is over the top in many ways, and far be it from me to indict all of capitalism because of all of this, but it seems to me that a going concern with a clear mission to stay alive would never ratchet debt up, cheapen their product, or pay off investors within the second year after the takeover. In the case of the Indiana commercial washing machine manufacturer (a business nobody at Bain had any experience in), everyone interviewed said that that company would still be making products today if not for the fancy financial footwork of Bain.

But again: How does the Pension Fund simply disappear? And would someone who had the longevity of the company as a going concern at heart add debt to a barely profitable company?

    Just sayin’…. 😉

    • Molly Pitcher says:

I have not really given the details of that Bain business much thought…it seemed a waste of my few remaining, active brain cells.

OTOH…I was thinking about why this administration thinks the Taliban is going to give us anything in negotiations now that we’re leaving the field…probably that train of thought is fruitless also

    • Molly Pitcher says:

I know!…since you are at home working…what are you cooking?

    • Bitwhacker says:

Hehehe…Either Pork Tenderloin en Croute or Chicken Blanquette. The first is an old Emerald recipe with puff pastry and a mushroom duxelle; the second one is an old Julia Child recipe which is basically stewed chicken with leeks and a really great sauce on top….or maybe hot dogs — I haven’t decided…;-)

    • Molly Pitcher says:

I vote for the stewed chicken and leeks! Yummy and perfect for the day….brrrr….

    • Molly Pitcher says:

BTW, I had a great success with my Christmas dinner of beef loin, boneless strip roast, seared, then rolled in Herbes de Provence and cooked on a bed of celery and carrots to Med. Rare.

And if you think I’m going all gourmet…you are flat out wrong! That was an aberration..successful, but limited….very limited…

  28. Molly Pitcher says:

    A couple of appreciations…

The gardening section of the paper Sat. had a nice column about trees in winter, and enjoying their beauty….their limbs and branches bare, the color of the various barks. I’m not a winter lover – surprise, right?! – but I’ve always loved this one aspect of the season., so I appreciated the author’s viewpoint.

And…a young mother at Panera’s with 2 boys, about 5 & 6, with a young sister, probably 2-3…the Mom was busy with the transaction, and the boys were keeping a sweet eye on their sister. She wandered away toward the door, and they moved to between her and the exit, shepherding her back to mom’s side. Then one of the boys said: We’re almost done. Mom’s getting us some Yum Yums.

    Just perfect.

  29. Molly Pitcher says:

    Huntsman’s going to endorse Romney…well whoop-di-do…

  30. queenie says:

Good morning. Thank you for this week’s start, Molly and the nice breakfast, lysie.
lysie: You certainly received LOTS of snow. Be careful out there.
Molly: Sun is out right now, then 40*, then rain, then COLDER, then the white stuff. Get ready.
Yes, Huntsman’s timing is odd. Stephen Moore, on WLS radio this morning, said Huntsman should have run as a Democrat. Really.

  31. lysie says:

The storm over the weekend gave us about 20 inches.

Andrew Sullivan calling us all dumb? If a sly fox keeps raiding the hen house only to be trapped by the farmer , who is the dumb one?

  32. Molly Pitcher says:

Huntsman leaving race 1 day after major SC newspaper endorsed him! Strange…

  33. Molly Pitcher says:

It’ll be warming up here today…rain by late afternoon

You’re not getting snow, too, are you?

  34. Molly Pitcher says:

Listening to conservative writer/ lawyer/ think tanker Peter Kirsanow on Bennett’s show: he talking about 0’s disastrous economic and foreign policies. Mentions the “lead from behind” as significant cause of failure in the second category,

  35. Molly Pitcher says:

    Evening everyone!

Hope the weekend was safe and restful…the new week begins, with January days slipping fast away..
