I went to the link, the screen w/pic of Newt and the arrow came up, I clicked and nothing! I’m really hating CNN. Last night I couldn’t watch cause it’s online streaming required some user name/password info for one’s home cable. I don’t have cable, only online tv. So it was a frustrating night. I’m sure I’ll see it yet.

I often ask, how do the anti-petro people travel around, how do they heat & cool their abodes. We know the grifter in our whitehouse burns millions of gallons of petro using AF1, each month, and his heavily armored bus and limo, they use a LOT of gas. lysie, sure is sounding rough up your way … amazing you’re still connected to the internet! Hope the worst of it is over for you. We’re having winds, but NOTHING comparatively. Comparatively it’d be a light breeze.
That storm went a long way from west to east.. the winds became strong here about 4 pm., and died down about 2 hours later. TWC was watching the system cross PA and NY, and predicted Syracuse would get hit about 8:30.
My immediate area seems to be ok, but I heard there were limbs and a tree down a couple of miles from here, and another area s.w. was without power last night
oh, I DID hear on radio we had an earthquake rumble overnight. Missed it completely. zzzzzzzzzzz.

The wind was/is horrible. There is one tree down on a house nearby. Thankfully, it doesn’t look like there is much damage. Poor guy. He bought the house a couple years ago and has done a great job sprucing it up….house and landscaping. He appears to be a hard worker so this may not be much of a problem for him.

I’m making roasted Italian sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms and potatoes later to take to my Dad. My brother and sil will be at the hospital. My sil’s sister is having an operation.
We are having rain and warmer temps, but that will change later today, so they say.

Last week there was a story about a now deceased couple who saved millions of dollars. The husband was a plumber. The wife was a nurse. They lived modestly and had no children. Their wish was to donate their savings to the Catholic Church after they passed away. Sheesh! Some of the comments on that story were terribly critical of their final wish.
That’s horrible!

We have been doing fine here, praise the Lord, no real sickness…..others have had some serious bouts with chest congestion. So, we’re keeping up with several activities now that the “season” is in full swing.
Mitt Romney is about to sew it up, su-prize, su-prize. Even Andrew Breitbart was just on with Lou Dobbs saying that tea partiers and conservatives are becoming pragmatic in nominating Mitt. We have been fairly certain since waaaay back that Romney would get the GOP nod. It’s his turn, afterall……
I’d have hated to have been on that cruise ship and Carnival Cruises is going to lose a bundle on this. Honestly though, is getting on an Italian based cruise ship a smart thing to begin with?? I’m just sayin’…..

Hi, all. lysie, God love you. To maintain good cheer against the elements, and to make such beautiful breakfasts at the same time, shows a remarkable attitude.
Well, the long birthday weekend has come to a close, ending our family’s seemingly endless parade of holidays, birthdays and anniversaries. Hallelujah. Now to settle in for a long winter’s nap. One new birthday to celebrate, however. A new grand-nephew arrived yesterday. ‘Jack’ weighed in at 8 lbs/8 ozs, exactly what his twin girl cousins, born 12/15/11, weighed in at combined!
A year from now, DC will be into Inaugural Week. Will WE be celebrating? Or mourning? The thought of O having a 2nd term without having to face re-election just scares me to death. It’s a shame to see how vulnerable he is, and how incapable the Republicans are at coming together to defeat him. Folks forget that Clinton was vulnerable at this point in his presidency and the GOP managed to flubb that one, too. It’s a gift, I tell ya! The ‘his turn’ business in the GOP just has to stop.
If Zero gets a second term, I will have to just stop paying attention. Maybe take a course at the local university….The stress is just too much.

OK, I have a question on the Bain thing that I just can’t reconcile in my head and maybe someone here can help.
What I don’t get is how an ‘equity firm’ can take over a ‘failing’ or ‘weak’ company, one that everyone agrees isn’t really in danger of going under yet but is ‘under-performing,’ then said firm ratchets up debt and issues bonds (more debt) so as to extract a ‘payout’ for the firm itself, then dump the equity when it is determined that the company can no longer survive — and yet the pension fund is destroyed.
How does the pension fund, which is supposed to be maintained by the company as a steward, with strict rules as to how and when the fund can be touched, suddenly disappear after all this activity supposedly done to ‘save’ the company?
The ‘When Mitt Came to Town’ video is over the top in many ways, and far be it from me to indict all of capitalism because of all of this, but it seems to me that a going concern with a clear mission to stay alive would never ratchet debt up, cheapen their product, or pay off investors within the second year after the takeover. In the case of the Indiana commercial washing machine manufacturer (a business nobody at Bain had any experience in), everyone interviewed said that that company would still be making products today if not for the fancy financial footwork of Bain.
But again: How does the Pension Fund simply disappear? And would someone who had the longevity of the company as a going concern at heart add debt to a barely profitable company?
Just sayin’…. 😉
I have not really given the details of that Bain business much thought…it seemed a waste of my few remaining, active brain cells.
OTOH…I was thinking about why this administration thinks the Taliban is going to give us anything in negotiations now that we’re leaving the field…probably that train of thought is fruitless also

Hehehe…Either Pork Tenderloin en Croute or Chicken Blanquette. The first is an old Emerald recipe with puff pastry and a mushroom duxelle; the second one is an old Julia Child recipe which is basically stewed chicken with leeks and a really great sauce on top….or maybe hot dogs — I haven’t decided…;-)
I vote for the stewed chicken and leeks! Yummy and perfect for the day….brrrr….
BTW, I had a great success with my Christmas dinner of beef loin, boneless strip roast, seared, then rolled in Herbes de Provence and cooked on a bed of celery and carrots to Med. Rare.
And if you think I’m going all gourmet…you are flat out wrong! That was an aberration..successful, but limited….very limited…
A couple of appreciations…
The gardening section of the paper Sat. had a nice column about trees in winter, and enjoying their beauty….their limbs and branches bare, the color of the various barks. I’m not a winter lover – surprise, right?! – but I’ve always loved this one aspect of the season., so I appreciated the author’s viewpoint.
And…a young mother at Panera’s with 2 boys, about 5 & 6, with a young sister, probably 2-3…the Mom was busy with the transaction, and the boys were keeping a sweet eye on their sister. She wandered away toward the door, and they moved to between her and the exit, shepherding her back to mom’s side. Then one of the boys said: We’re almost done. Mom’s getting us some Yum Yums.
Just perfect.
