America the Right Way -Staying Vigilant- January 14, 2013- January 18, 2013 Remember 9/11

Hello!

Well Gen. Colin Powell further distanced himself from the GOP with extravagant praise for Chuck Hagel and strong criticism of the GOP. What’s with this guy?? Beltway-itis, probably….

      Hey, good morning everyone!

lysie May I start the thread tomorrow a.m.??

    • lysie says:

Yes. That will be fine, Molly. Thank you.

Yucky and cold out there. Boo!

    • Molly Pitcher says:

      Very good, m’dear!

I think this, or tomorrow, might be our last nice day for awhile…

      Good morning, all

We awoke to — drum roll, please — SUNSHINE this morning. It’s been a week since we saw blue skies. My nasty side was hoping for a bitter cold, dreary Inaugural weekend. Alas that’s not in the cards. Instead we will have a bitter, dreary four years ahead. Argh.

Plans are on for the getaway on Sunday to meet up with friends well beyond the Beltway. Beautiful hour’s drive into the VA countryside. And,, the place where we’re meeting doesn’t have TV. It does have fab bbq and apple cider donuts brought to your table warm.

Jemian, when you check in, can you update us on Mark? Thanks.

  2. The Raven says:

Hah….we have a local sheriff here who says he’ll ignore Obama if it violates the second amendment.

    Good for him.

    • The Raven says:

Notice the lefty journalist plops this near the top
“….But their actual powers to defy federal law are limited. “
As if the Constitution is not federal law. I guarantee they don’t teach that in whatever journalism school the author went to

    • The Raven says:

      Morning quote:

“….With just a single exception, the attack in Tucson last year, every public shooting in the U.S. in which more than three people have been killed since at least 1950 has occurred in a place where citizens are not allowed to carry their own firearms.”

12 Ways To Use Saul Alinsky’s Rules For Radicals Against Liberals

I don’t agree with number 9, but there are a lot of valid ideas otherwise.

    • The Raven says:

Number 2 is definitely out of the experience of the ‘Pubs/Conservatives. Stick to inteleectual high ground and freedom of people, markets, exceptionalism, morality, and the Constitution.

    • The Raven says:

It is amazing to me how doggone smart our founders were. The libs aren’t battling us. They are battling the Constitution. The founders foresaw them 200 years ago because they were there then !!! Every word of our founding document speaks to us, whereas the libs need to operate with only the words of the commerce clause and half of the first amendment.

    • The Raven says:

And pushing a negative….is definately the libs lies !! We should paint them as sophisticated liars. Always and often. Then when they criticize……the Teflon comes out

  6. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

Thanks lysie…I’m waiting to see how much snow falls in B’ham today!

Listening to a psychiatrist talk about mass killers and how we can stop them on Bennett’s show…he’s optimistic, but it takes much more awareness of the culture than we have now.

    • lysie says:

So far, we are getting a dusting. My son said they got 4 inches yesterday in Binghamton.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

      Snow in Mississippi and AL!

I want to elaborate on my report from the Bennett show this a.m….the forensic psychiatrist who Bennett interviewed…

this doctor believes that too many young people’s minds are being twisted by the victimization culture..and the use of violent video games and movies which turn people into objects…Both these trends can be used to justify violence. He also used the word “evil”, and warned against the overuse of the “mental illness” excuse.

    • lysie says:

R rated movies, tv shows, video games all desensitize violent actions and distort reality.

I’m not saying there wasn’t violence in shows when we were younger. There was. We saw people shot , stabbed, etc…via Roy Rogers , Dragnet, Gunsmoke, WWII movies, etc. The difference is we also had The Donna Reed Show, Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, Father Knows Best, Make Room for Daddy, Lassie , Leave It To Beaver, Lucy Show, The Honeymooners and many others.

Have you checked your cable guide lately? I can’t stand to read the titles of some shows much less watch them.

    • lysie says:

Oh and the press. Why report 20 times a day, 7 days a week about some athlete or movie star doing drugs, fooling around on their spouses, pregnant and not married…etc, etc? Fox news included.

Our tv is off much more lately. Much more.

    • The Raven says:

I wonder if any of the shrinks are advising……..”…why not go down to the range with 100 rounds and take out your frustrations”

  7. lysie says:

    Molly, here it is.

  8. Molly Pitcher says:

ha, ha…caller on Bennett’s show: the only gun debate we should be having is “which one to buy”

Plus he knocks 0’s exploitation of the Sandy Hook children today…..Can we have a stage of children burdened by the debt 0 is piling up?

  9. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

  10. edinva says:

    G’day all

I’ve had a busy couple of days but did want to give an ‘on the ground’ report as DC prepares for the Inauguration brouhaha next Monday. I had to go into DC yesterday (something I avoid whenever possible unless it’s to a show or art gallery or museum). My husband’s office is at 6th & Pennsylvania Ave, just blocks from the Capitol Bldg and smack along the parade route. In the past we would get nvitations to watch the parades from this well positioned perch and increasingly strident notices about security. This year It’s as if nothing were happening. In ’08 the Metro stations were festooned with Pepsi ads where they’d appropriated the Obama logo to merge them with the Pepsi logo. They were literally everywhere. Nary a one did I see either yesterday OR today when again I had to take Metro into DC, hitting at least a dozen Metro stations spread around the city. The ONLY clues that there’s “something” going on were 1. the significant increase of homeless men sleeping on grates and in doorways along PA Ave, and 2. rows upon rows of porta-potties. (the two no doubt being connected).

But .. BEST OF ALL ..there was a news item about the DC Council members’ efforts to avoid the inauguration altogether. None of them wanted to have anything to do with it. But their constituents wanted some sort of affair,so they set up parties at the District government’s building that’s also on PA Ave, so their chosen constituents can watch the parade. But none of them was the least bit interested in attending the Inaugural Ball(s). Need I say the DC Council has not one R? Its 13 member board does boast two “Independents.” And, perhaps shockingly, 7 of those 13 members are of the Caucasian persuasion.

So that is the report from your friendly on-site reporter. Over to you, Chet.

    • lysie says:

      Great job reporting, ed.

Well, I for one, if I had the power, would make all O voting reporters view the parade. Not in a cushy booth , but curbside. I’d grab O’s voting people out of their beds and make them stand along the road side to watch.

The DC Council members would attend the Inaugural Balls with Michelle’s specially designed outfits. At meal time they all would munch on carrot sticks while O and Michelle eat lobster over a bed of rice with 3 inch prime rib steaks on the side. For dessert the members would have, once again carrot sticks…O and Michelle would have German Chocolate cake with whipped cream.

      That’ll teach ’em!

    • Molly Pitcher says:

      Thanks ED Interesting details…good report

I was in DC the week before Bush’s 2001 inauguration. Now THAT was exciting, and pre-9/11, the security wasn’t so ramped up…I walked past the WH and the reviewing stand, the construction was about complete and of course Penn. Ave. wasn’t closed off then to traffic

  11. Molly Pitcher says:

Wow, lysie I just heard your Gov in full Leftist mode on the gun issue.

      We like Mike!

Four of us met with our state senator last week to discuss O’care. Unfortunately, he seemed to think there was not much we can do to stop O’care in this state. He did say that there have been several meetings at the state level to discuss implementation and he said it, O’care, is a train wreck.

    • lysie says:

Yes. Cuomo is a gun grabber.

I’ve been dealing with my dad. I was at my brother’s all afternoon. A health nurse came to talk to us about my father’s alcoholism. Stressful!!! All he did was deny.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

Well, Pence has a good foundation to work with doesn’t he? the one left by his predecessor, Daniels….one of my old friends is excited: her granddaughter graduated from college and has a job! She’s going to Fort Wayne, and Marie & I had our first political conversation ever. (We usually talk about where our husbands used (her) and do (me) work, museums, music, travel.) She’s NY born and bred and still has that accent…so….it really surprised me when I broached the subject of IN being a pro-growth state, and she replied: Yes, indeed, It’s great…a right to work state!

You never know. where you’ll find common ground…..

Possible HIV exposure at Buffalo VA hospital

In a statement to The Associated Press, VA spokeswoman Evangeline Conley said the hospital “recently discovered that in some cases, insulin pens were not labeled for individual patients.” She added that “although the pen needles were always changed, an insulin pen may have been used on more than one patient.”

What? Whoever did that let me share my tissue with you when I have a cold. Sheesh! Third world country here we come.

  13. lysie says:

  14. The Raven says:

Some quotes in the spirit of the coming inauguration of B O:

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.
-Obama 2006

President Obama told the nation in his June 14 economic policy address in Cleveland that his economic policy plans for a second term would “create strong sustained growth;…pay down our long term debt; and most of all…generate good, middle-class jobs….” He then spent almost an hour describing policies that would do just the opposite.
-Peter Ferrara, American Spectator, June, 2012

He lies to us constantly about who he is. Not in the way most politicians lie, spinning and shading events with self-serving half-truths. He lies with the arrogant bravado of a con man messiah. My grandfather was tortured by the British. My parents met because of the march in Selma. My white girlfriend wanted to be black. These aren’t lies that were forced out of him in a rough moment to defend himself from controversy — like the lie about terrorist William Ayers being just a guy in the neighborhood, or the one about never having heard the hate-mongering of Jeremiah Wright — these are intentionally crafted falsehoods. They were meant to do exactly what they did: to recreate Obama in the image of the black savior leftists had been waiting for, the man who would relieve them of the disfiguring guilt arising from their dreadful history of racism and justify the disastrous havoc their policies have wreaked on African-Americans.
-Andrew Klavan, PJ Media, June 2012.

Americans are desperately seeking an answer to a simple question: why does President Obama appear to be so un-American? The term un-American here is not synonymous with anti-American (though Obama has been that on occasion); instead, it merely signifies that President Obama is unconcerned with typical American principles and traditions. He sees capitalism as selfish and evil, religion as dangerous and oppressive; he sees the Constitution as antiquated and entrepreneurialism as exploitative. He is the representative of the Fareed Zakaria ideology at work, celebrating the post-American world.”

Benjamin Shapiro on why the new book by Jerome Corsi (Where’s the Birth Certificate? ) tops Amazon’s best seller list week after week

For some inexplicable reason, Mr. Obama welcomes the decline of America’s role on the international stage. It is his most notable accomplishment.

    Morning quotes:

“…What has always made the state a hell on earth has been precisely that man has tried to make it his heaven”
-F.A. Hayek – The Road to Serfdom

The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government, are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the State governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce; with which last the power of taxation will, for the most part, be connected. The powers reserved to the several States will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people, and the internal order, improvement, and prosperity of the State.
-James Madison in Federalist paper #45

On every question of construction carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates and instead of trying what meaning may be squeezed out of the text or invented against it, conform to the probable one in which it was passed.
    -Thomas Jefferson, 1823

To be governed is to be watched, inspected, spied upon, directed, law-driven, numbered, regulated, enrolled, indoctrinated, preached at, controlled, checked, estimated, valued, censured, commanded, by creatures who have neither the right nor the wisdom nor the virtue to do so
    -Pierre-Joseph Proudhon
