America the Right Way -Staying Vigilant- January 28, 2013- February 1,, 2013 Remember 9/11

Hello!

A tricky and dangerous ice “event” is moving across the eastern U.S. and will hit some major metro areas tomorrow morning during rush hour, forcasters are warning.

7 people were killed and several wounded in one day of gun violence in Chicago this weekend.

And the USPS new rates for 1st class and postcards are now in effect; each category goes up 1 cent from 45 to 46 and 32 to 33.

Good morning! Just checking in. Rather busy and have a very bad internet connection. I tried to do a speed test and never did get a response. I read here almost everynday, but I don’t know enough about the news to make an original comment. Plus, I am so negative about it all. I’m glad I’ve read the end of the Book because the current age is so wrong.

The ministry with my students is going well. I’ve been able to speak with some of them privately about personal issues. It is when this happens that some of the best teaching occurs. Yet, unless you are consistently working with them, those opportunities never happen.

The last two weeks have gone from one of the emotional spectrum to the other. A high point was the gifting of a new-to-me laptop. It arrived yesterday, sans power cords. They’ll arrive on the 12th. A low point was happened with one of the dogs I’m taking care of until the owners return. The two dogs were imprinted early to be distrustful and wary of others. So, when one of the workers was trimming weeds, one of the dogs saw this an attack. So, she aggressively defended her home. No one was hurt, but the dog was sent to a remote village. She’ll be cared for, sort of.

But the incident upset me considerably.

Former New York City Mayor Ed Koch has died at the age of 88. Even though he was a dem he was a good, common sense-thinking man. RIP.

    • edinva says:

I am actually sad to read about Mayor Koch. Probably the last elected D I will say that about. He was very liberal but not a rabid lefty, and tended to have some sense of balance and decency. Not to mention, he could be very funny in that Borscht Belt way.

    • lysie says:

I’m with you. While not agreeing with him all the time at least his discussions were more civil than most libs.

  3. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

    • lysie says:

Whoa! Yesterday we had heavy winds clocking at 50mph with higher guts. No major damage here, but elsewhere trees were down. Now, we are getting about 7-10 inches of snow. The mild weather that we had a few days ago is over and greatly appreciated. It melted a lot of snow. Now we are starting over. I’m not worried. Just a few more month of this to go.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

Hi lysie!…moment of relative peace here…

Trying to find out how badly Hagel’s hearing went yesterday…

And the economic news! HOW on earth can this be blamed on Bush…? Of course they will try, but still….

    Good morning everyone.

Yes, Molly I will start next week’s thread. Have fun.

Anyone here a Jane Austen fan?

This is the 200th anniversary year of her most popular work, Pride and Prejudice. A recent article in the WSJ covered some of the history of her fan-dom and and appeal.

Did you know that WWI soldiers, suffering from shell shock and so on, were given Austen’s novels to read? It seemed they had a soothing effect on the poor , very distressed men.

    Hmm…anyone for reading/rereading her works this year? We’re a bit shell-shocked, I’m thinkng…

      Aw….

Bennett is getting lots of calls and emails about the Boy Scouts issues. That group’s governing board will make a decision next week. No public announcements til then.

lysie I’ll be gone for the next week, and intermittently posting. Will you please take over the start of next week’s thread for me?

  14. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

You heard about the rumors concerning the Boy Scouts, yes??

Did you know that Chik Fil A’s profits have been huge this year??

      Good morning!

    • lysie says:

      Yes. I heard.

Very icy conditions this morning. Later the temperatures will go to low 40s. I looking forward to that.

Just when I think Central New York is failing…this happens.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

      Heavy fog here…

Yes, I was reading an article last night about the huge crowd in DC for the MfLife and especially all the young people attending, and my eyes filled with tears at their devotion and faithfulness. Not a good time of year to travel or attend outside events.

    • edinva says:

We’re heading for 60 later today! (then upper 60s tomorrow before heading back to 40s, even mid-30 on Thursday). Just nice to have a break after the really frigid temps last week.

The crowds that turn out for the March for Life are always amazing. I don’t remember them ever getting a weather break; some years have been colder than others but no warm spell ever. The marchers are outdoors for a long, long day with little place to escape to … they congregate on the Mall and walk up to Capitol Hill. No coffee shops on the direct route. So to celebrate 40 years and God knows how many millions of abortions since Roe v Wade, NBC produced an outlier poll claiming a majority of Americans now prefer ‘choice.’ A Gallup poll the same day with contradictory results didn’t get any attention, of course.

      Enjoy the day!

    • Molly Pitcher says:

Good point ED…that part of DC – and it’s heavily frequented by visitors – is a desert of comfort places like restrooms and easy places to get food, etc. Street vendors in the summer, but that’s about all…to go into one of the museums along the way costs quite a lot IF they have a restaurant, and sometimes it’s not easy to find the restrooms in them either…

Great…0 is looking for police chiefs who’ll help him on the gun control issue.

By the time I left the house this a.m., it was merely slushy outside…except for the entrance to the gym…aargh…a skating rink. I found the office of the realtor who owns the building, and complained. It’s a common problem, it seems like….no salt used at all.

  17. lysie says:

Good morning everyone. Thanks for the start Molly.

    • The Raven says:

So…..my early prediction on Zero’s second term is the completion of the fundamental transformation…..the liberal’s dream since Wilson…….rewriting the Constitution. No more gun debates, no more religion debates, no more Rush Limbaugh, no more Fox, no more search warrants. Why not get rid of the House and Senate, while we’re at it…….just a small Politboro should suffice. And then of course, Zero becomes permanent. Sort of like Lenin or Castro.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

      Forward to the Collective!

That is the definition of Forward, we now understand: individual freedom thru collective action, per 0’s address a week ago.

Make sense to you?? Nah, I didn’t think so…

    • Molly Pitcher says:

That looks so good….I’ll have to go out and assess the driveway (on a hill) and the street (again, a hill) before making plans to go to the gym…down a hill to the valley…

    • lysie says:

Be careful, Molly. Today we will have a mix of snow and rain.

    • tillacum says:

That looks good, lysie, thank you. Just quickly read thru the 3 news articles. To find the truth, we look to FR, the mass media is still slobbering over this administration and protecting it’s flanks. sad.

  19. edinva says:

Molly, glad you had a great weekend. Do tell!
So we’re looking at ice tomorrow morning? But 60’s here on Tu? Then back down.

  20. Molly Pitcher says:

Hope everyone had a safe, enjoyable weekend. We did!
