America the Right Way -Staying Vigilant- June 17 – June 21, 2013 Remember 9/11

Hello!

Hope everyone’s weekend was safe and restful…

0’s under a lot of pressure to create a no fly zone over Iraq as Iran plans to send several thousand ground troops into that country.

3500 people may be called as potential jurors in the Aurora, CO shooting trial from last summer.

And also in CO, the wildfires near Colorado Springs are about 65% contained. Rain is in the area, but rain and t storms can also bring lightening, a potential firestarter.

thanks for the Nat King Cole Lazy Hazy Days of Summer! I remember when that was popular and played on the radio (in the AM only days) and summers really were lazy. Today was maybe the most perfect first day of Summer I’ve ever experienced in VA. It was what I remember growing up in what was then fairly rural NY. Nice and warm but not oppressively hot and humid. NO ONE had AC, and no one needed it. What a nostalgia trip. Again, thanks!

What’s going on with interest rates, the stock market, and so on… Really hard to believe that inflation hasn’t taken off…wish I’d saved the article from awhile back which said that the measurement of inflation had been altered and changed thru the years, like a lot of government economic measurements…

    • Prairie says:

Well, when you consider that energy costs and food costs aren’t even put into the inflation calculation, it’s no surprise that the results smell like BS.

    • edinva says:

Tonight I took my son’s car to run some errands. Naturally, it was too close to “E” for my comfort, so I stopped at the gas station and figured I would buy just 3-4 gallons to get MY errands done and he could fill it himself later. That 4 gallons of regular (I got generous) cost what I used to pay to fill my big ole Cadillac with the high octane.

When I got to the supermarket for just a few items it was another $20, basically for nothing. Without the cost the distributors have to pay for transport, those groceries would have been $9-12, max. And I don’t have a bunch of young mouths to feed. Can’t imagine what families’ grocery bills have to run these days.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

I agree absolutely with you 2 about food and gas costs…the article I’m remembering was quite technical….but maybe it amounted to the same thing in the end as what you’re saying….when my van is empty and I go to fill it up: ~ $60….and that’s with the fuel rewards I get spending $$$ at the grocery!…

    OK….Friday Afternoon is here !!!
Molly had a request for Lazty Hazy Days

  5. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone. Happy summer.

  6. The Raven says:

    Molly—-LaBron had a good week. Zero didn’t

  7. lysie says:

Yard work…enjoyable…yet sore now. 😉 Plus, after prodding Greg we now have another door on our barn. Greg ‘s tractor can go in the barn and out of the garage. What a novel idea~!! LOL

  8. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

      Another week just zooming by…
Very pleasant weather here, too. I think there’s another fire out in CO…will have to check for sure…

    • lysie says:

Yes. The weather is nice. Finally stopped raining so farmers can cut and bale hay. Tomorrow or Sat. we expect to load up our truck and trailer to haul some home for the boys.

  9. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

Thanks lysie I hope you are enjoying the long summer days and time with Sarah

    • tillacum says:

Thank you, I’ll have that. Good Morning.

    • lysie says:

      Good morning, ladies.

Molly,on your trip, I trust all went well with the libs.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

…Well, one of my husband’s cousins made a comment about hating the “rich”…she’s a sweet person…giving and not otherwise ornery, so I waited a few seconds and gently offered the idea that it’s not good to hate either “the poor” or the “rich”…She agreed that her choice of words had not been the best…later in the day, she was back in that mode however…

About the same time her Aunt was extolling the virtues of Cuba. I just had to ignore it all.

There were other such things….sigh…the conservatives among us just roll our eyes and smile at each other….see how it goes?

Another thing: it’s impossible to point out the inconsistencies in their voting for libs and Dems & their scrambling to take every tax deduction they possibly can…maybe not even the wisest course in some cases, my husband thinks….also agreeing that IL is in terrible shape…well….duh It makes my head spin!

It’ll be another year or 2 before I see most of these relatives again..most, not all…probably. HA!

    • The Raven says:

Molly…I had similar experiences at work….a bunch were criticizing Fox News as too right wing. I of course read it correctly as the equivalent of racism for conservatives…..and shot back something which brought the room to a whisper. I now have a new theory that progressives simply don’t understand conservatives….they believe the propaganda of the left and don’t have a clue what “right” is. I am convinced if they study it thoroughly, they cannot be progressives.

    • Prairie says:

Molly…..”the virtues of Cuba”…….LOLOL!! Of course it isn’t really funny but I could just picture you rolling your eyes.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

Yes, this person said she’d go back to Cuba in a heartbeat: wonderful…

The disconnect between their beliefs and the reality…which is sometimes acknowledged..(.this same person recognized the abysmal state of IL)…is hard to take.

    • The Raven says:

If I wanted to start from scratch and create a country guaranteed to be at the bottom of the list in every category, the form of government would be an easy choice…..just which flavor….Cuba or North Korea

  10. Molly Pitcher says:

Hi everyone…solving problems here, now heading to grocery…

but here is the video about the LA state legislator who just switched parties…as Limbaugh mentioned, it’s a tearjerker, for me personally, with my family’s history, especially moving.

  11. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.
    Welcome home, Molly.

  12. The Raven says:

Anybody have a camper (travel trailer) ??

    • Molly Pitcher says:

That would be prairie…it’s being repaired right now, and delayed their trip to the mountains…

      We are home..Good morning !

    • edinva says:

Good morning Molly, all.. welcome home, glad you arrived safely.

    • tillacum says:

      No, Raven, not here.

    • Prairie says:

We have had travel (bumper pull) trailers in the past. Motorhome at the present but would try to answer any questions.

    • The Raven says:

Prairie…..just bought a low end travel trailor….and are looking for a recommendation for a first stay – preferrably the beach — maybe Hilton Head or the Outer Banks

    • The Raven says:

      spell check!! Make that “trailer”

    • Prairie says:

Rav, I won’t be able to give a personal location recommendation, I don’t have much experience with traveling the east coast. Are you looking for an RV park or are you more interested in a site at a state park perhaps? If the case of each I’d suggest checking out Trailer Life and/or Woodalls for their ratings and listings. (The campgrounds have to pay for a listing so there might be some that choose not to be listed and that are perfectly acceptable facilities….but it’s hard to know about them and their location if one isn’t from the area) The vast majority of places list in either or both of those publications. There are websites to both as well.

If you decide on a state park for instance, you’d probably want to call and find out how they handle reservations, especially since we’re in the height of the camping season. It might be first come, first served and they do get filled up. Once you decide on a destination, I’d make a reservation regardless of whether it’s a state park or private park for the same reason.

You can also check into a discount card if you think you’ll use it enough to pay for it. You’ll get discounted daily rates….this would be Good Sam card or maybe Passport America (they have fewer facilities). KOA offers a card where you rack up points over time that will eventually lead to a free night.

Hope this helps, happy camping! Congrats on the trailer…..what size did you get?

We are still homebound, although I think the rig should be ready by the first of next week. Now we are having some work done on the toad. (vehicle we tow) Everything at the last minute this year, it seems……..

    • The Raven says:

we got a 27′ travel trailer with a fairly large slide out.. My brother has a motorhome and recommended Good Sam already. I picked out a Hilton Head private park for our first trip and made a reservation a few minute ago.

    • edinva says:

Have fun and file a complete AAR. We’re hoping to go to Hilton Head in October.

  13. edinva says:

Good morning. Everything is quiet here. Maybe too quite? Learned for sure the Dear Daughter and hub will be moving back to DC in the Fall. Really happy about that. But in the process I DO lose my very affordable and well-situated NYC place to stay. Oh, well.

  14. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

  15. lysie says:

Thanks, Molly. You are doing great posting with your new-ish toy.

Oh! Yes , we go for fish and music on Friday nights. Eric plays guitar some nights.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

Thanks lysie…..we had a power outage here at the motel near the airport… Got us up and struggling early. Back on now and we can resume “normal” operation
