      Yummy! Thanks , Molly.

      TGIF!

    • Prairie says:

Happy Valentine’s Day! We are off to a dinner dance tonight after playing our monthly benefit gig at the nursing home. It’s always a gratifying experience, the folks enjoy us, we enjoy them.

Busy weekend here, Big Surprise Anniversary Party that a friend of ours is throwing for his wife tomorrow. The kids are coming in and she doesn’t know, 150 people are gathering for potluck lunch and jam and she doesn’t know and a group of them are going on a week-long cruise…..and she doesn’t know. Oughtta be a fun time. Then on Sunday afternoon our park is joining with the neighbor park for a street dance, hot dogs etc. It is to foster unity between the parks, so it’ll be a good thing.

As for Mayor Nagin, too bad that our culture has made any discussion or acknowledgement of sin off-limits. Perhaps if he had recognized how much our ancient foe loves to destroy reputations, he’d have understood all he was risking.
I’m about to finish up “The Light and the Glory” book written from a Christian perspective from the days of Columbus, the Pilgrims and Puritans, and the Revolutionary War. All the biblical truths and teachings we’ve rejected and lost, and how that is now causing us such harm.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

Goodness on that crow experiment. Put him in charge of New York City!

    • Molly Pitcher says:

You will have a fun weekend, for sure!

    • lysie says:

      Have fun Prairie.

Molly, I thought Rav would like that. 😉 I hope he has power and is doing well.

    • The Raven says:

Speaking of smart birds, when we were in Vancouver on vacation, the birds were digging out clams from the sand and then they’d bring them back to the asphalt sidewalk and drop them. After the clam broke open, they’d eat it. They seemed to know how high in the air they needed to go in order to break it open

    • Jemian says:

      Happy Valentine’s Day.

We decided to ignore the snow and head to the beach. Wonderful day of sun, sand, and reading. It was just what I needed to forget my FORMER student.

“The Light and the Glory”, is that the book co-authored by Peter Marshall? If that’s the one, it is excellent and should be read by all for a true telling of America’s founding. Peter Marshall is the son of Catherine, author of Christie and a long-time Guideposts contributor, and Peter Marshall, presbyterian minister and chaplain of the Senate around WWII.

  1. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

  2. The Raven says:

Yuck#1 …snow hit us but good. just got power back last night. I bought a generator at Lowes after it looked like no power for a while (no power, no plows, no internet, no work, no heat, no TV, no coffee). We have a heat pump, so next I tried to find a space heater or a propane heater……I drove 40 miles west and found a Walmart with one. Every other store was completely sold out.

Yuck #2 We have Directv and after three or four fits and starts with the power last night, it stopped working and gave an error message.

Other than that, slowly returning to normal now.

    • The Raven says:

Update: Yuck#2 resolved!! ….I had a DirecTV device plugged into a circuit which had tripped a circuit.

    • lysie says:

Sorry, Rav. Take care in that stuff.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

Oh my….all those things we depend on…What. A. Mess.

How bout the DiBlasio- Al Roker fuss?!

    • lysie says:

Poor, poor Al. Did you vote for him, Al?

    • Molly Pitcher says:

      He probably did.

    • edinva says:

Rav, sorry you lost power, but at least you could get out, so there’s that. Am a bit concerned about your priorities, however. Coffee last? Seriesly? Just the thought, remote tho it was, that we’d might possibly lose power for an hour or two had me brewing a 2 qt pot to put in the big thermos Wed eve before the first snowflake flew..

Molly, aren’t you glad you had this opportunity to get away, head South, to avoid the Northern Winter? ha!

We’re heading into President’s Weekend. The whole concept of ALL U.S. presidents sharing one federal day irks me. Remember having Lincoln’s AND Washington’s birthdays off from school? Now ole Abe and George are thrown in there with the likes of Carter, LBJ and Clinton. Something’s wrong here.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

I agree, ED....only two Presidents deserve a celebratory day , and they should be honored separately, too…Washington, and Lincoln

  3. Molly Pitcher says:

0bama policy move boosts economy unfortunately it’s not ours…

  4. tillacum says:

I still have stitches but they will dissolve. They eyes still look a bit squinty, but they are healing beautifully. Thanks.
Are you on the TX coast?

  5. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

  6. Molly Pitcher says:

    Enjoy!

    Cold Winter Morning

Wife texts husband on a cold winters morning:

    Windows frozen, won’t open

    Husband texts back:

Gently pour some lukewarm water over it

Wife texts back 5 minutes later:

    Computer really screwed up now.

  7. Molly Pitcher says:

the death of socialism. This old article is a good one to read in the present day, and the Mess We Find Ourselves In.

Read it, and think of the way 0 talks about economics and business…his tendencies toward soft tyranny…..the recent demagoguery about income inequality…

  8. lysie says:

Darn. Another great one passes. Sid Caesar dies at age 91.

  9. lysie says:

    Happy Birthday, Bit!!

  10. lysie says:

Jury reaches verdict in ex-New Orleans mayor Nagin bribery case…

    GUILTY!!

  11. tillacum says:

Jem, I think you did the right thing. It sounds like this boy controls his family too. They may be unaware of it.
    ed your eye sounds fantastic.
Molly, sorry the weather was so cold when you arrived at you condo. This week it is going to be up in the 70s.

  12. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

    • lysie says:

Jem, now we see that the problem is not only the misbehavior of the child, but the parents who willingly ignore the fact he needs to behave in each class.

      Prayers continue.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

      Thank you, lysie

Jemian the outcome…..wish it could have been better for you…..more what you wanted.

    • lysie says:

You are welcome, Molly. I hope the weather is fine where you are.

Another morning temperature in the minus column. However, the sun is shining and going to 25 degrees Tomorrow will be above freezing. Woo hoo!!

  13. Prairie says:

Good afternoon all. Reading about storms etc., a cold front came through here last evening. It went from 80 and beautiful to 40’s and rainy. But I won’t complain because I know the winter season is definitely on it’s way out here soon. Of course that will eventually mean that people start leaving and heading north…..but not yet, still plenty of Winter Texan activities going on. Dances, parties, lunches etc. Our park is having a Casino Night tonight but we’ll be going to the jam instead.

I’ve caught some of the Olympics, mostly surfing by. I did happen to see that 15 y/o Russian girl win the figure skating. And a wonderful story about the female American luge winner today.

  14. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

  15. tillacum says:

As long as a democrat has an enemies list, it’s ok. If a Republican has an enemies list, all hades breaks loose and each name on the list will be contacted by every member of the alphabet press and shown to the world, via tv, written press w/pictures how AWFUL that Republican is for having their name on the Enemies List. Now nobama is another case. As he has said, “As president, I can do anything I want”. It’s the truth, he has been able to anything he desires and the corrupt democrat party is all for whatever he does. The weakened Republican party stands helpless to stop him. We need to encourage people to vote Right.

    • lysie says:

Gosh. I wonder if it was President Herman Cain or President Allen West or President Ben Carson or President Thomas Sowell… the left would react the same way???

      I know…I know…Don’t be silly, lysie.

  16. lysie says:

    Great video, Molly.

Work accomplishes pride. Pride gives a person reason to do well in life. Plus, work makes leisure time more valuable and enjoyable.

  17. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

Thanks for the start, Molly. Good luck with the windshield repair.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

      Very delicious breakfast there, lysie

    • tillacum says:

I think, we’ll have that for breakfast. Yes, it’s late, but now I can see to cook.

    • edinva says:

Checking in after a breakfastless morning due to pre-surgery fast. All went really well. The Left eye that was operated on is seeing really well without benefit of an outer lens. We should know tomorrow at the post-op what the correction is, tho it may take a few more days for the eye to settle, but at this point it’s very promising. That is the eye that was so bad, I always had to go to specialty opticians to make my glasses.

Spent the weekend celebrating our son-in-law’s 30th. I’m sure HE felt old, to us he’s so young! Dear Daughter put together a 2=day event to mark the occasion

We’re supposed to gete someof this Sothern storm on Wed/Th. Rav, are you in its path? Anyone else? I’m thinking maybe Jem’s kids” Atlanta already announced schools will be closed Wednesday AND Thursday. At least Southern storms don’t hang around till late April, like they can in the North. So that’s something!

    • Molly Pitcher says:

Glad you are ok <ED that storm across the south is the one we were racing today to get ahead of its path. We ran into the precip, but the temp rose as we went along…watched it as we moved along….29……30 for a long time, then 35 for a long time…..then warmer and warmer.

We did go thru some heavy rain….maybe the rain headed for the cool temps in Atlanta, and ice..

    • lysie says:

Great news about your eyes, Ed.

    • Jemian says:

I’m not sure if my family will be getting some of this storm. I think not. One set is in Auburn, Al, another in Lubbock, another in Washington State and another in So. Korea. It’s hard to keep up with weather events for all the locations.

Still pretty angry, stressed, discouraged, you name the negative emotion, over work. Lots more drama involved than I can write. I’m meeting with my principal in the AM to get more clarification. There must be an end to this.

    • edinva says:

Jem, saying prayer for a positive outcome @ your school.

    • lysie says:

Praying for a satisfactory solution, Jem. With that solution an easing of your stress. ((hugs))

    • Jemian says:

Well, yesterday after school there was a meeting of all concerned. The parents said how his behavior is all OCD and that my teaching style stressed him further. I listened to their statements and thought of what further adaptations ( I have done everything up to now the parents requested) I would have to do and, basically said this AM, I can’t do it. I wrote up my interpretations of the meeting, talked to my principal and we discussed how he adapted to the math and science teacher, but not to me. The parents did not want me to even verbally reprimand their son when he was acting out in class.

The kid will now attend half days. I don’t get my classroom arrangement back but I do get to teach in my manner. To try to clarify, I have a lot of group work, AND self-directed study, mixed in with the book learning. My classes are noisy because there is a lot of interaction and debate. But the OCD student needed more structure. He also ALWAYS had to run any group he was in and would become sarcastic and insulting to those who didn’t agree with him, especially the girls. He never would willingly work with a girl.

I hated to do it, but since I only got >5 hours of sleep last night, I had to have him removed.

I hope it is now settled. Thank you all for praying.

Now, Ed, how is your eye?

  18. The Raven says:

    Morning Quote:

“Ms. Engelbrecht,” Jordan said, “in the first 20 years of business, did OSHA ever visit your place of business?”
    “No sir,” she responded.
    “Never once?”
    “No sir.”
“After you filed the [tax-exempt application for King Street Patriots], OSHA visited then, right?”
    “Yes sir.”
“In the first 20 years of business did the [Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives] ever come to your business?” Jordan continued.
    “No sir.”
“And they came a couple times once you filed your application?”
    “Yes sir.”
“And in your first 20 years of business, did the IRS ever audit you?”
    “No sir.”
“But once you filed your application, they audited you?”
    “Many times.”
“And in your first 20 years of business, did the FBI ever visit you?”
    “No sir.”
“But once you filed your application, did they visit you?”
    “Six times.”

-Tea Party group leader Catherine Engelbrecht during a hearing Thursday on Capitol Hill.

  19. Molly Pitcher says:

Will try to check in tomorrow early before the windshield fixers arrive, but may not make it til later.
