America the Right Way -Staying Vigilant- August 4, 2014 – August 8, 2014 Remember 9/11

This article follows up on lysie’s excellent comments a couple of days ago:

Barack 0bama and the ‘folks’ who kill folks

His comments indicate an obtuseness that is strange, dangerous, and worse. They reveal a lack of serious thinking that simply is not to be tolerated in a person elected to such a high office as he has been….twice.

And yet there we are.

Public servants acting as masters Glenn Reynolds

What we’ve forgotten about 0Care

the dangers of 0’s intel mismanagement

The governments IT disaster Michael Barone

Is thinking obsolete? The Great Tom Sowell

This time it’s the Dems who have the awful candidates Wash Times

I’m looking forward to the game tonight, Molly. Winning doesn’t matter to me. I want a good game..(fielding, hitting and pitching).

No Friday music. Greg has a clambake to go to with his “turtle club”. Ha!

Sarah and I will watch the game.

  3. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

  4. The Raven says:

Well…the TN results are in…..LaMar, the Tzar beat Carr by 9 pts. But Wamp was wamped but not swamped.

Funny….the election for people you never heard of…like school board or county commissions — and there’s a choice of three……the top three alphabetical names win all the time…….if your name starts with a Z—-change your name to AArdvark or don’t bother.

But over in New York City, the new mayor is greeted with the return of the squeegees !! Rudy Guiliani got rid of them (and turnstile jumpers) and now they are back. Sign of liberalism.

      Morning quote:

There’s an awful irony here. Barack Obama entered our national consciousness with an electrifying 2004 speech calling for healing the nation’s divisions and transcending narrow identities of race, region, religion, politics and ideology. Four years later, that promise made him president. Yet today he is prepared to inflict on the nation a destructive, divisive, calculated violation of the constitutional order and national comity — for the narrowest partisan advantage.

Charles Krauthammer – WAPO on likely immigration executive order. No one is discussing the possible flooding of voting centers in the fall with illegals……..this could be Obama’s way of bringing voters out – like the war on women.

Is there any of Obama’s liberal “theories” which worked out? He’s been an across the board failure except for his campaigning for office while he holds said office.

When I was about 9 yers old my family went to NYC for a Yankee game. The windshield washers were everywhere.

I remember thinking…what gives them the right to stop your car and do that? Scary at the time.

Minnesota Cafe Charges “Minimum Wage Fee,” Liberals Outraged

Excellent, LOL! More businesses need to follow suit and perhaps the light would dawn on some of the voting public that decisions of legislators have consequences for their pocketbooks!

This is almost as good as the story Bill O’Reilly reported a couple of days ago about the café (was it in Georgia??) where if you say a prayer over your meal, 15% is deducted from your tab. What a great idea, because I’m betting that the sort of people who pray in restaurants (we always do) would overall more than make up for the 15% discount in their tips.

  6. Prairie says:

Raven I agree that the Pubs look foolish and are contributing to the establishment of very bad precedent when they don’t defend the Constitution and let Ostinko get away with everything that he does. It certainly doesn’t inspire me to haul myself down to the polls to vote for them.

Speaking of votes, I was saddened that Dr. Milton Wolf lost the KS primary to Pat Roberts (78 years old). And I suspect that mil and sil/bil didn’t bother to go to the polls. Sigh…..

We will go to the land of deer, elk and bear for a few weeks then back down for the repairs. I stocked up at the grocery store today. We could last easily for 2 months except for fresh produce and dairy. Maybe longer.

    • Prairie says:

From the Joseph Curl article: Michelle Nunn in Georgia isn’t much better. Through a colossal screw-up, her entire campaign plan was leaked to the National Review

  7. Molly Pitcher says:

Ok! I’m reading a bookmarked article from the Gospel Coalition and came across this sentence….

The short-term prospects for our culture may be bleak, but we’re reminded daily that light follows darkness like that’s its job, as if Someone was preaching a resurrection sermon with every sunrise.

  8. Molly Pitcher says:

Well, the Dem Sen. Walsh from Montana is dropping out of the race due to continued charges of plagiarism.

Back home, the local paper is deeply saddened, despairing even, that the Dem running against Kasich is still in trouble…not looking good at all.

  9. Molly Pitcher says:

true or false? are we taking action of some sort in Iraq?

  10. The Raven says:

Today is the primaries in TN and Lamar Alexander is getting some competition from Joe Carr a Tea Party and Sarah Palin favorite. Lamar has a commercial so bad I watched it and knew I would never vote for him – unless he wins tonight, that is.

Vote for Carr NOT LaMar !!!!

  11. lysie says:

Thanks, Molly and everyone for all your links.
    I’m trying to catch up.

Love Dr. Sowell..My opinion?? Common sense today is lacking,

  12. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

  13. The Raven says:

    Morning quote

It has been a privilege to take on the challenges of the rural economy and environment. However, I leave the post with great misgivings about the power and irresponsibility of—to coin a phrase—the Green Blob.

By this I mean the mutually supportive network of environmental pressure groups, renewable energy companies and some public officials who keep each other well supplied with lavish funds, scare stories and green tape. This tangled triangle of unelected busybodies claims to have the interests of the planet and the countryside at heart, but it is increasingly clear that it is focusing on the wrong issues and doing real harm while profiting handsomely.

    – From today’s WSJ Notable & Quotable – Owen Paterson, who was replaced last month as the British secretary of state for environment, food and rural affairs, writing in the Telegraph, July 20.

    • Prairie says:

According to Front Page Africa and the Daily Observer, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf called on Tuesday for all residents to fast for three days and pray for forgiveness.

“Relying on His divine guidance for our survival as a nation,” she announced, “I call on all Liberians to observe three days of national fast and prayer to seek God’s face to have mercy on us and forgive our sins and heal our land, Liberia, as we continue to fight against the deadly Ebola virus.”

  14. Prairie says:

Good evening all, thanks for fixing the above link Molly or lysie. Well, we have to have more work done on the RV and involves ordering parts which are delayed from their normal shipping schedule. Soooo, we’re planning and evaluating our next moves to this unanticipated bump in the road, no pun intended. 🙂

Saw a marijuana store yesterday where the sign outside was advertising 2 grams of pot for $12. I’m pretty sure that price didn’t include the taxes which we’ve heard are quite high for the recreational stuff….so maybe $6 to $10 more? (guessing here) Some marijuana store was reported on the news to have made over $1,000,000 profit their 1st month in business.

If we figured right, 2 grams would be 0.2% of a kilogram….2.2 lbs in a kilo. So not much at all.

  15. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

    • The Raven says:

Do you think the new lefty initiative to legalize marijuana is similar to the “war on women” initiative in that it tends to pull more voters in off-year elections ??

    • Molly Pitcher says:

That seems like a strong possibility, yes…..something that Dems would do.

      Good morning everyone.

      Love the steak lysie

    • Molly Pitcher says:

My husband, wherever we go, likes to engage young people…but once he gets past the usual questions like where they go to school…what do they study, etc. he’s in tricky territory, and knows it… in his nervousness he will make cultural references that are way beyond the young persons understanding, and once again I pointed this out to him the other day after watching a 20 year old struggle to grasp what my husband was talking about over the dinner menu.

Yes, you are right, he sighed…I will learn to talk about “Boyance”. I laughed for 5 min. over that one

    • Molly Pitcher says:

      It’s hopeless…

You enjoying Sarah’s visit home? Hope you have a few more days.

    • lysie says:

Yes , we are. Thanks. She leaves on Friday. 😦

Greg and Sarah are taking the dogs to Fair Haven for a swim.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

That sounds nice…a good week all around. I bet the guys are happy too!

  16. The Raven says:

[trigger warning…contains information on LeBron James]

Molly….LeBron James was on low carb Atkins all summer…..he lost a ton of weight.

PS—Speaking of Ohio….this guy looks like a rising star for the Dems

  17. Molly Pitcher says:

Jim Brady has died… He is one of those people frozen and remembered in time like he was the day Reagan and he were shot.

Also…. All the Nixon stuff…40 years! Wow.

  18. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

  19. Prairie says:

Experimental drug likely saved Ebola patients? CNN article. Not to take away from the effectiveness of the serum, but the fact that millions of people having been praying for these Samaritan’s Purse workers might’ve had just a teeny-weeny thing to do with the positive outcome…..just sayin’. 🙂

Good evening everybody. Checking in after having been gone for a week or so, we’ve had a lot of fun with new friends, catching trout, playing music etc. We are having a bit of service done on the rig this week so I’m in civilization for a few more days. Hope all are well here and I look forward to catching up a little.

  20. The Raven says:

    today’s quote

in a democratic government—even though the people would directly elect only congressmen, while the supposedly more prudent state legislatures would elect presumably wise and propertied senators and an electoral college the president—couldn’t the unpropertied majority vote to tax away the property of the small minority of rich citizens and give it to themselves? But that would never happen, Madison argued, because in the extensive republic that the Constitution would govern, so many different factions and interests would flourish that no single-minded majority could form that could tyrannize a minority by expropriating its wealth. Redistributive taxation, therefore, was a chimera

MYRON MAGNET It’s Not Your Founding Fathers’ Republic Any More

  21. lysie says:

Good morning everyone. Thanks for the start, Molly.

    • The Raven says:

Lysie……The anniversary of Goldwater’s acceptance speech is coming up. It dawned on me that we have quite a few notable Conservative speeches (Reagan D-Day, Reagan to British Parliament, Reagan Goldwater endorsement, Netanyahu after 9/11, Reagan Tear Down This Wall, Thatcher’s Sermon on the Mound) but where are the lib speeches? — Maybe Roosevelt? , Kennedy with Ich Bin Ein Berliner? , We will bury you, Khrushchev Definitely I had a dream – MLK

Maybe we can come up with something like “You must be a Redneck” lines for libs.

If your party can’t seem to come up with a good speech, YOU MUST BE A LIBERAL.

    • The Raven says:

      [moved down]

Molly and lysie….O’s NSC council has the above non-grownups who are young, Marxists, political hacks. These “folks” fit right in with this President.

Hate doing this again…but it is also behind the subscription wall

Meet Obama’s Kissingers – Kim Strassel

    • lysie says:

If the majority of the words in your speech are “I” , “me” and “my” you must be a liberal.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

Ok! Fine start to the a.m.

    • The Raven says:

Hah…this cartoon falls in line with the speech theme

    • Molly Pitcher says:

      That’s a good one….0bama, the juvenile, pretending to be a grown up…sometimes

  22. The Raven says:

As a followup to edinva’ s post about ebola….there’s an article today in the WSJ on the transmission of the virus. Says it is not by coughing, sneezing but by feces, vomit, and blood….making it hard to spread (but not in Africa where they handle the body at funerals)

Maybe you can get through the subscription wall…..

Ebola: How Worried Should We Be?

  23. tillacum says:

Molly, he is not a serious person. Truth is not part of his being. He plays at being a president of America. His thoughts are of himself, his pleasures, his self importance, his photos to be shown on tv and on paper. I – me- mine – myself – I’m and Me is always foremost in his mind. I do not think he is a serious person, before, now or ever.
