Bringing some of the replies to the top..

Rav, take us with you on your next trip. You are my “vacation idol”. Grand kids must be much bigger.

Molly not to worry. Friends understand friends. I know your humor….you know mine.

  2. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.

Welcome to our world Carissa. You found a wonderful family to share your life with.
We’ll begin our Atkins, in earnest on Monday too. Hubby wants to lose weight, but on his terms. HO HO. I’ll portion control him and it will be mostly Atkins. He’s in the basement, right now, working out.

Dish is not carrying Fox, right now…is that correct? Lysie, are you missing that? I am looking forward to the new Heartlands which resume this month…I watch them on youTube

    • lysie says:

Molly, we don’t have any cable provider. We hook a laptop to our TV with an HDMI cable. There are several websites that allow us to watch Fox, ESPN, etc. that way.

    • edinva says:

Lysie. We don’t have any cable, either. Gave it up @ 5 years ago. Good move. THO there are times I’d like to see some TV (we ‘do’ Netflix). Am going to check @ an electronics store today about HDMI/ROKU, and may get back to you to see how it works for you. I get confused (and out of my league) too easily.

Rav, had an ‘interesting’ convo with one of my sons the other eve about his and my starting lo-carb diets for the new year. I spoke to the need for some carbs in everyone’s diet, necessary nutrient, etc. I was told a good goal is 30g carbos/meal. He agreed, said basically carbs are sugar, everything turns to sugar, it’s needed for the brain, blah blah, blah. He then concludes with: think of your brain as one big gummy bear! Don’t get more appetizing, do it? I’m not waiting till Monday to start. I just feel like a blimp. So out with the high carbs as of 1/2.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

Oh, ok! Someone else recently told me that is what they did.

    • edinva says:

Went to the electronics dept @ WalMart (maybe not best choice) to get a ‘feel’ for the TV alternative options. Saw the HDMI/ROKU business and realized I just haven’t a clue. Not a single hint of what it’s all about or how to achieve it. Maybe just stick w/Netflix for a while.

Speaking of Netflix (as I do a mental seeming non-sequitor leap from Netflix to Kevin Spacey) … did anyone see the NPR special, the Library of Congress Geo. Gershwin Award for 2014 for Billy Joel? They had all kinds of big names singing Joel tunes. From Natalie Manes (I know, I know!) to Tony Bennett. The audience, mostly well-heeled, powerful DC insiders, were rockin’ in their seats, singing along to every last word. That was actually as entertaining as the music. Spacey also sang, seemed to play harmonica, and more or less MC’d the event. The presentation was made by Sotomayor. So a heavily left-wing crowd, but nonetheless entertaining. (better than Huckabee).

Tomorrow my sons will be 31 ! The one who lives in Richmond (Matt) decided he’ll come up next weekend for a joint boyz-dad birthday celebration. DH’s b’day is Tuesday, the 13th. Think he had just enough fun with the two weeks of holidays in NoVA. I don’t care … I am not ready to take down my tree. Maybe by Easter.

ED I also think the earlier in the day you have your last carbs the better. Also to get the ball rolling, maybe trying for No carbs is worthwhile…say for a week. Good luck!

    • Molly Pitcher says:

I am making chicken veg. Soup today…no carbs, not even a carrot or a noodle. It has celery, green beans and mushrooms.

    • lysie says:

ed, we have Roku 3 and like it. We subscribed to HuluPlus for $7.99 per month. We watch Wings, Newhart, Taxi, Green Acres, Mary Tyler Moore, The Odd Couple and more.

      Roku3 Classic shows

    • lysie says:

Molly , great day soup. I make it that way and add a little shredded cabbage to make it appear like noodles….or cauliflower to make it look like rice. 🙂

    • Molly Pitcher says:

Yes…forgot the cauliflower…also zucchini is a good one too.

  5. edinva says:

Welcome, Carissa!!! With your loving family, you can look forward to a grand life ahead. God bless your entire family, near and extended. (especially your maternal grandmother, of course)

  6. Molly Pitcher says:

How’s your Mom’s appetite in general, Raven?…sometimes that provides a clue or 2…

  7. Molly Pitcher says:

Very good! Thanks for the start and intro…calling our attention to that report lysie. Any plans for the day? The past 2 days I’ve done some cleaning of clutter…you know? Now progress on that front, yes!…and it’s time to get to the grocery to restock, and run an errand or 2.
One of my New Year’s resolutions: to enjoy cooking more….so far, so good. HA!.

  8. lysie says:

    Good morning everyone.
