Ha! Loved the I survived free range parenting. Yes, we sure did. Only thing is it was called getting out to play. Neighborhoods were safer and the parents in the neighborhood watched out for all of us.

Oh Yes…I do remember the neighbors of that era, and lots of children out and about. Sometimes at my exercise class we reminisce about those times. One gal said recently, “My mom sent me out after breakfast and told me not to come back til lunch!” And then she laughed over the memory.

    Pledge of Allegiance
(Red Skelton: As originally recited on his TV show)

I’ve been listening to you boys and girls recite the Pledge of Allegiance all semester and it seems as though it is becoming monotonous to you. If I may, may I recite it and try to explain to you the meaning of each word?”

I — me, an individual, a committee of one.
Pledge — dedicate all of my worldly goods to give without self pity.
Allegiance — my love and my devotion.
To the flag — our standard, Old Glory, a symbol of freedom. Wherever she waves, there’s respect because your loyalty has given her a dignity that shouts freedom is everybody’s job!
United — that means that we have all come together.
States — individual communities that have united into 48 great states.

Forty-eight individual communities with pride and dignity and purpose; all divided with imaginary boundaries, yet united to a common purpose, and that’s love for country.
And to the republic — a state in which sovereign power is invested in representatives chosen by the people to govern. And government is the people and it’s from the people to the leaders, not from the leaders to the people.
For which it stands, one nation — one nation, meaning “so blessed by God”
Indivisible — incapable of being divided.
With liberty — which is freedom — the right of power to live one’s own life without threats, fear or some sort of retaliation.
And Justice — the principle or quality of dealing fairly with others.
For all — which means, boys and girls, it’s as much your country as it is mine.

Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country and two words have been added to the pledge of Allegiance…UNDER GOD

Wouldn’t it be a pity if someone said that is a prayer and that would be eliminated from schools too?
    God Bless America!

    Good morning everyone.

    • Molly Pitcher says:

Good morning and thank you for remembering flag day. We are still the home of the brave, and land of the free, despite our horrible leadership

  3. lysie says:

    You are welcome, Molly.

Plenty of rain here the last few days.

I have no clue about the escapees. So many reports saying they are close to being found..yet…nothing.

I want to know why a prison needs a tailor???

    Good morning everyone.

      Morning quote 1:

“We thought that direct aid to the colleges was illegitimate. We’re the trainers of citizens and statesman. If the government funds us, it’s controlling that process.”

-Larry Arnn, Hillsdale College on why they take no government money – not even Pell grants to students

      Morning quote #2

      I don’t understand the question

      – Rachel Dolezal – the very white NAACP president (pulling an Elizabeth Warren) when asked if her father is black.

Good morning! What a strange couple of weeks….
Thanks for the start, breakfast and links lysie and Raven

My husband is off at our church’s monthly Men’s Breakfast. I think he is cooking this a.m. too…not sure, but am sure about this: We did get rain late afternoon yesterday! Our neighbors who did some major shrub and tree plantings this week are very happy.

Do you think those two escapees are still around the area they are searching?? Hard to believe based on the thin evidence, but on the other hand, why no reports of carjackings, abductions, etc? Did they vanish into thin air??
