Hello!
It seems strange thinking back to an announcement a few years ago that Cleveland would be the site of the Republican convention, and knowing now what our country faces….the momentous decisions ahead of us.
Are we feeling secure here at home? How about the threats abroad?
Is our economy in a steady, prosperous mode?
Those who would lead us…are they up to the challenges? Are we, the citizens?
We shouldn’t skip lightly over these questions or tolerate leaders who dismiss them either.

We also saw this band the other night in Nashville’s Grand Ol Opry…..playing this song.
Good! We are going to a concert tonite ourselves…Sugarloaf Mountain
So Munich is being attacked….
Woohoo! TGIF!
I’ve heard of that band, Rav.
Have fun at the concert, Molly. Terrible about Munich.
Happily reporting: it is very hot out there. The bark is practically melting off the trees.
Lysie…we also saw these acts – Striking matches and charles esten from the Nashville TV series. And Jean Seely an Opryland fixture. Plus Pam Tillis.
Rob McCoury on banjo, Ronnie McCoury on Mandolin, and the inimitable Jason Carter on Fiddle. Del McCoury’s vocals are an acquired taste, but once you get used to him, it’s OK.
The Opry is so much fun….it needs to be on everyone’s bucket list.
Good morning everyone.
Goood morning! Late night, yes? I stayed up to watch til the end, and caught some of the Fox News Hannity show commentary, where the oh-ing and ah-ing went overboard, imo. But they were positive, while probably over at CNN, the heads were exploding….I fall somewhere in between, lol.
How are you this a.m.? I had my pre-surgery exam yesterday for the next eye procedure, but that isn’t for 3 weeks. Got the check-up with reg. doc out of the way , tho.
Isn’t this the truth? From today’s WSJ ed.
Good morning. We were up late-ish, too. Positive. I like positive. If Trump believes what he says and does it we may get our country back.
I have an app’t with my ortho surgeon on Wednesday.
Mark Levin last night was saying he has heard a lot of complaints about Fox bias against conservatives. And many viewers are getting more balance at CNN believe it or not. And speaking of Cleveland. Do you know who is playing 600 ball and in first place of the Am. Central Div? That’s right…the Cleveland [redacteds]
I noticed that about Fox News. I bet viewership is down.
oh my…I hadn’t noticed that change in Fox, but there’s a lot of turmoil there I’m reading…
Raven…if anyone is like Nixon at his worst moments, It’s Hillary!, and her “moments” last years!
This a.m. I’m fixing scrambled eggs loaded with onions, celery, topped with fresh picked tomatoes and hash oh, sliced melons and of course a cuppa.
I think the Donald did GREAT last evening. Of course we do have members of the liberal, socialist media who will nit pick anything he says. I think he will be a good president, because he believes in the American People, you and me. He’s depending on us to make America Great Again.
Good morning, all …
lysie, thanks for the breakfast but haven’t you heard?? Jon Stewart came out of retirement to tell Trump supporters that they are NOT “getting their country back” because, per Mr. Stewart, it never was their country!!” So there!
The left is going absolutely crazy. They are supporting a woman who should be behind bars for reckless endangerment of the entire country. They promoted and voted twice for a man with no resume, but nitpicking a man who actually built a multi-billion dollar enterprise. Who has, it should be noted (despite his own peccadillos), raised 5 remarkable children, the oldest of whom have established their own successful careers, and who show intelligence, poise, grace and warmth. (oh, say, compared to *some* adult children who get high paying jobs simply because of who their parents are?)
Those people (the left) are treacherous. Most of the comments coming out of the Hillary! campaign are so sophomoric, one has to wonder if there is an adult in the house? We know there’s an adulterer. har har. But, seriously, those comments are pathetic. Unfortunately, so, too, is her base.
Rant off. It was a good speech and seen as positive by 75% of Americans per CNN. So Hillary’s comments about its being ‘dark’ don’t seem to be going over. Can you imagine listening to her screech for an hour next week? Ain’t gonna do it!
Morning till and ed.
I agree with you , ladies.
ed, No, I cannot imagine anyone listening the lying criminal for 20 minutes let alone an hour. Hubby will watch their convention, old logistics military man believes to know what the opposition is up to. I need to find a good mystery for that time.
Can anyone believe Obama’s saying how Trump’s description of the US is off, that it’s safer than 30 years ago, and the chaos and mayhem are not the experience of most people. Yeah, unless those people live in Chicago, or Detroit, or San Bernardino, or Orlando, o Baltimore, or Ferguson, or Chattanooga … or, or, or. And now overseas in Munich. I’m a little concerned as our daughter’s brother and sister in-law and their small children live in Munich, and it’s where DD and family will be going at Christmas. No place is safe (tho I’m glad DD & Co. are presently in safer than most Japan).
And, let me ask .. is there a breathing soul who believes he has law enforcement’s back? One could easily believe that “open letter” was satire.
I should have stayed on vacation till maybe November. Reading these lying %&$*@)! is making me crazy!
Good morning everyone.
Good morning lysie…there were a few more problems up in Cleveland yesterday…a flag burning, a few arrests, some vandalism of police property…relatively minor all things considered. My head’s still in a whirr from the night’s events…altho I didn’t stay up to hear Pence. taped it. so that may have been the thing which would have settled me down…Otherwise, my thoughts are the same as just after listening to Cruz: 98% great speech, the kind he should have given more often last winter, in fact, but the other 2%, definitely disappointing.
Here is my answer to Cruz: I have principles and a conscience too. You were my candidate first, and Trump definitely not. But my regard for my country and the Founding principles say this: a non-vote or a vote for Hillary is a vote to end the country. We’re in a war. Wars are messy and often there are less than perfect choices. Too bad you can’t see that.
Agree, Molly.
Why not decline to make the speech? This election does not need controversy to fuel Hillary’s campaign.
Good Morning Everyone. It’s a beautiful morning in central Texas. This afternoon it’s going to be blistering.
Watched the convention last night. I thought Eric Trump made an excellent speech. Gov Pence knocked one out of the ball park. He’ll make a great VP. Cruz? He acted just as I thought he would. I will not vote for him during his next run for the senate.
Good morning,till.
A hot one here, too.
Cruz….so sad.
Well said, Molly. Trump supporters should have toned down as well. Maybe Cruz would be better off staying home. But I think Cruz (and I) are looking at potential catastrophic futures – and don’t want to be part of it.
I agree about the Trump supporters. I think they were caught off guard. The fact that Cruz was there on the stage led them to believe in a different outcome. Whether Trump was gracious or foolish to let him take the stage, I don’t know.
And look at it this way: we expect the Senators and Cong. to get on board awkward as it may be for them, right? I don’t see how Cruz can be given a pass. And further….he made a pledge to begin with, and so did Trump…if Trump had lost, and then tossed the pledge aside, what would the Cruz supporters be saying now? It just doesn’t add up, and again…a Cruz voter here, who hopes and prays for a Hillary loss AND a return to constitutional principles..
People are using 1976 as a comparison….Reagan and Ford at the convention. This is not a valid comparison, however, as the state of the country was not quite so dire…bad as Carter became, and remember, he ran as a conservative Dem., there is no comparison with 0 and Hillary and her gang and where we are now.
till you and I in our respective critical states, one with a Governor, sitting on the sidelines, and the other with a Senator who has a strong following: very concerning. Trump can not afford to lose Ohio and TX.
Correct, Molly. The dominos will fall quickly with Hillary initially appointing a replacement for Scalia and then the Bill of RIghts will fall. First will be freedom of speech and then the second amendment shortly thereafter. Then the voices of the right will be gone and Cruz posters will be valuable. Regardless of the Congressional make-up – with the Supreme Court at her beckoning – she will use Obama’s precedent to change whatever she wants.
PS – Trump needs the big states. …. definitely OH & FL. Remember – Hillary has by default 258 and only needs 12 more electoral votes from the toss-up states. If VA and/or NC goes Hillary … it’s all over anyway. How does Trump win?

You are right Molly. Having a house full last evening, I was amazed how they reacted to Cruz’s speech. They were angry and one confused when he refused to indorse Trump. Hubby looked at me and said “Honey, you had him pegged from the beginning.”
Cruz is now trying to put a band aid on his speech. Poor fellow.
Trump OK’ed the Cruz speech (he saw it earlier) – otherwise Cruz would have not spoken.
Morning quote: [updated]
– Ted Cruz – from NY Post
Well, if Cruz has a meltdown when someone criticizes his wife, then he would not have survived the general election.
too good to check: apparently when Cruz was addressing the Texas delegation this morning, one of the delegates held up a sign that said Clinton/Cruz 2016.
I wouldn’t be surprised mkh…to a certain extent, this is all inside baseball going into tonite’s Trump speech.
Changing the subject…here in n.e. Ohio we have a great local radio guy, a very thoughtful conservative, and because he is local, he gets local calls from people you don’t get to hear on the national talk shows…among these calls are some powerful voices from Black conservatives. They too are thoughtful and passionate, and I sure love hearing from them.
Trump needs to clean up his public act, for sure, yes. But with that remark, Cruz resorted to the personal above the larger political stakes himself.
Molly, Trump will not lose TX. I can’t speak for OH. ALL Cruz had to do was acknowledge the Trump / Pence ticket. For instance, he could’ve said: “Having Hillary Clinton as president is unthinkable. We need to make sure that Trump / Pence is sent to the White House instead of her.” Easy. Simple. Saves his face with the family and doesn’t make him look just as bad as the other part of the GOP establishment who isn’t even showing up at the convention and who Cruz supposedly disdains. My husband is furious with Cruz. Say’s he’ll never vote for him again. So it’s serious in TX for Cruz, but Trump will prevail here.
On another note, if the GOP was smart (which I realize is a stretch anymore)….they’d court and mentor those Trump sons. I watched Eric Trump last night and saw a young JKF-type. It would be especially great if some solid conservatives in the GOP could mentor them.
Laura Ingraham was very good I thought. Funny, how a hand wave is being portrayed as a Nazi style salute by the media. Dutiful little communists that they are. Well, we WERE to have Home Group tonight but DH and I are a big under the weather so we postponed it until next week. I guess we’ll just have to watch the convention after all. 😀
prairie…saw your response about your yard and garden activities. Thanks!
Yes, agree about the Trump children’s potential. Quite impressive!
G’day, Molly, all
Back home after nearly 2 weeks “up North.” NY/NJ/CT. I actually saw a few Trump signs/bumper stickers. A few even in Chappaqua. One house had a slew of Hillary! signs, but otherwise the area is fairly sedate and folks there won’t a) sully their homes with political signs or b) get into politics till after Labor Day, if then. Everyone’s away at the beach!
This is one of those rare times I wish we had cable. Have been following FR’s live threads, but have not been able to watch. Apparently even C-Span now is only available thru one’s cable company. I tried to get just a TV account, no reception wanted, but you can’t do that, apparently. So here I am following others’ reports. And, God knows, there is no way I will watch the upcoming convention.
There are no words to describe my reaction to BHO’s “Open Letter” to law enforcement. That person doesn’t have one shred of credibility in my estimation.
Hope you are all well. As nice as my vacay was, it’s nice to be home, too.
Oh very good….you will catch up with the news eventually. I could say a lot of things, but will just spend a few words to say that Ben Carson, appearing on Fox News from time to time this week, has been excellent in articulating conservatism and a strong love for our country. I hope he continues to play a public role.
No endorsement from Cruz, and a significant part of the audience was not happy at the end, once that was clear. But earlier in the speech he had stressed voting for the candidates up and down the line who promoted freedom. With those kinds of words he pleased the crowd. I think Cruz could have been more gracious or at least somewhat ambiguous in his endorsement.
In other ways his speech was very good. It’s kind of a downer, tho considering the end.
If Cruz cares so much about what he says he does, and the Rs and conservatives on all the ballots everywhere, I think he had to swallow his pride or whatever, and promote unity, even if he did that in a subtle way without going all full bore Trump. But he couldn’t even do that. It was a clear, blatant non-endorsement.
Wondering if the Trumps thought he would??
Molly … this will be the best election cycle ever, once it’s done and a year from now, God willing, we have a President Trump. Cruz totally blew it. I’m among those who suspect he won’t be reelected in TX and won’t be well funded for what appears to be his planned 2020 presidential run. I read that the Trump campaign approved Cruz’s speech, so I am pretty sure The Donald knew Cruz was not about to endorse. Trump is, if nothing else, a very good reader of people. I am sure he timed his own arrival at the venue to coincide with the end of Cruz’s speech, so that the cameras would turn to him. He’s no fool. He makes me laugh because he’s always a few steps ahead of everyone else, and that has made the election such (nerve-wracking) fun.
We have had a relatively mild week (for July) but the heat is set to return tomorrow. Still and all, neither the winter nor summer of ’16 so far has been too bad. Hopefully, I’ve not spoken too soon!
Ok…more…Gingrich is explaining what Cruz did. Gingrich ad libbed this, went into his genial professor mode and did well. Did he make a sale? A plus for trying.
Hello everyone! Glad to be checking in, we had company all last weekend and you know how it is getting put “back together’ after that. Anyway, what a week for politics, eh? I have overall been enjoying the RNC convention, especially Melania, Giuliani, Donald Jr, Christie’s speeches among others. Tonight will be must-watch, I believe, a truly impressive lineup.
Hi prairie. I agree….Pence and all. Some very good speeches last night.
Have been catching up on my computer work, so it’s time to go outside. Where you are, do you have any yard or garden work to keep you busy?
We are at Blessings. Plenty of forest work and I have some flowers. We seem to keep busy. 🙂
Reporting in. After an excellent dinner at the Aquarium, we had an excellent day at the Country Hall of Fame and night at the Grand Ol’ Opry. 2011 Idol runner up Lauren Alaina and winner, Scotty McCreery did a bang-up job. Scotty performed a new song – Only Five Minutes More….which I predict will be a hit.
Trouble is the heat. Our RV A/C can’t keep up. We may head back a day early.
Good morning, Rav and everyone. Get a fan. Darn it. Who are some of the other performers?
Wow! What a great place to dine!! What did you have?
At the camp. Greg’s cousins came to fish.
Hotspot wifi is working. Yay!
Oh you are enjoying Nashville! Too bad about the heat…yes, the height of summer, and it is tough in some circumstances.
Thanks lysie…again, watched some of the convention last night, but mostly the game. Ryan and McConnell appeared in good “the show must go on” mode. But how sincere are they? They focused on Congress, and not Trump.
Good morning, Molly.
Sincere? They are sincere all right….sincerely faking it all.
I took my coffee and something to feed the ducks down by the lake and saw a huge, beautiful Bald Eagle this morning.
Was the Eagle fishing?
How about “Ka sick” speaking to a group of Hispanics yesterday and holding that party last evening, snubbing the convention. I just heard the Hispanics ALL will be voting for Hillary. I’m wondering, now, of the 2,000 “conservatives” he invited to his party at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Ka sick is hateful with jealousy, Poor, poor soul.
I won’t defend the governor we have here till…not good at all. Some of the state’s R officials are in Cleveland…but not the gov. Sigh…
Till, he wasn’t fishing…..just gliding side to side. Beautiful!
Molly, it’s a shame about Kasich. I liked him when he was a Rep under Newt.
Yes, he seemed to go “squishy” when he became gov. Still he was better than any Dem, but now…just a sad loser.
3,000 volunteers from n.e.Ohio welcome RNC
Nice.
Yes, it was fun to come across that. There have been some confrontations near the convention…some ruckuses, but nothing horrible, and only 1 arrest, as of last night…what the latest is, don’t know.
the Iran Deal: worse, even, than you thought
The World goes to hell. Melania to blame Andrew Klavan …funny and on target.
I’m not surprised. Not only does the press cater to low-information viewers but they are low info reporters.
That is for sure. evenin’ lysie. Watching the Indians who have faltered on the warpath lately.
Good morning everyone.
A favorite lysie breakfast!
Did you watch some of the convention? I taped Melania’s speech, and reading about it, she came off pretty well it looks like…maybe very well.
Yes. I watched. I missed Melania’ speech. 😦
Rudy was energetic , to say the least.
Oh you could find her speech on the web somewhere. I watched CSPAN…some of the Fox commentary is just waaaaay too much. Bill O’R tops that list.
What the heck happened to Fox News? Fair and Balanced? Not anymore.
The news is that Melania plagiarized one of Michelle’s speeches. /rolling eyes
She did plagiarize – unfortunate because that is the news. Front page on the Post and WSJ.
Oh! I didn’t hear her speech.
Why in the world would she want to copy Michelle’s speech?
This has to be a big foul up by someone…not her. In this case, someone else can appropriately take the blame, IMO. She gave what she was given to deliver, and that’s it as far as she’s concerned. Did she even pick the writer? I doubt it.
Correction
: well I guess she told Matt Lauer that she wrote it with the help of some speechwriters….
Who is writing Trump’s speech?? apparently Peter Robinson, an old Reaganite. Some good news…also Cleveland is getting positive comments on the arrangements so far.
Correction: Robinson denies he is writing the speech, and has only offered ideas for the candidate, who he does support.
OH YUM. That makes my morning. Thanks lysie.
Watched the convention last night and off and on during the day. I thought it went as expected. However this a.m. Morning Joe is having conniption fits over Melana’s speech.
He’s so full of himself.
I think she used common phrases people use when telling of their growing years and how their parents taught them to be truthful, honest, giving etc. The media just had to find something wrong with the convention and speakers.
Yes, that’s a valid point. She also could have watched different candidates’ wives, and they filtered thru her brain as they appealed to her. One thing is sure: Michelle didn’t believe what she was saying, while Melania did. immigrant.
Is some rebellion brewing on the convention floor? Or is it media driven? what do you think?
Worries me …
Wow!
Republican officials approve convention rules, triggering uproar.
I bet it is media driven. They are the enemy.
Please forgive my long absence. I have been involved in some legal matters and did not want any lurkers reading between the lines and possibly misinterpreting something I wrote. I think the matter is now far enough along, and is being handled properly, that my self-imposed moratorium can cease.
This has been, of course, a GREAT summer. A new grand in April. In June I had a blast teaching Vacation Bible School. I came down with pneumonia. Had a relapse in July. And now my youngest and her child are here for two weeks. Then, it is back to work.
Prayers for all, but especially for our country. Evil forces are at work.
Aw Jemian….we understand, and are happy you are here and count the time home a great success.
After my friend left I watched it off and on. Some good speeches. I know the tactics used looked a little rough and rude, but how people can think they will overturn what so many voter voted for in the primaries, going by those rules, and be ultimately successful against Herself, is beyond me.
And Trump did not get my vote, but…Kasich, the others…. just look like sore losers in one fashion or another. Any way you slice it, whatever the election outcome, the Rs are never going to be the same. But there is a lot of blame to go around on that score.
Hi Jem. Good seeing you here.
Wow! You are having a busy/FUN summer. Good!
I personally think the media and soros are behind the rebellious bunch. There is a jealousy among the losers. They cannot get over the fact, the electorate want someone without a political background. They want someone who speaks out, as the average American does, and not talk mealy mouth about something. Americans for the most part are plain spoken folk and be truthful as they can be. They have become tired of the no
nothing speaches we’ve been hearing. (my thoughts about the rebellious rabble)
Good morning everyone. Thanks for the start, Molly.
For Those Who Protect Us
Almighty God, I commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women who put themselves in danger for our protection. Defend them day by day with your heavenly grace; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
And thank you for the breakfast!…woke up to a t-storm….rain!!!
I hope we get some rain.
Hope your hip is still feeling better? My friend who lost her husband a few weeks ago is coming over for supper. My husband is out of town, so we can easily catch up. she is planning a “gathering” later this summer to remember her husband, so that will be one topic, for sure.
Let’s pray for a peaceful, calm week in Cleveland, everywhere.
I will pray.
Enjoy your dinner. What are you having?
Hip is doing well. I’m waiting for my ortho surgeon to schedule an appointment.
so glad to hear about your appt.
dinner: roast beef, asparagus, salad, melon and ice cream for dessert 🙂 Come on over!
I have to keep it simple cause she’s almost a gourmet cook!
Oh! Yummy.
Would love to come over.
Beautiful lysie. We’ll be having a similar breakfast. Watered the backyard garden, everything is green. Hubby just appeared, I guess he’s up for the day. The yard man
will be here around 1000. I need him to help me train my wild rose up the porch of the
garden shed and mow. I don’t understand, the yard is a cracked mess but the grass continues to grow.
Thanks for the beautiful prayer….
another good outcome in Baltimore trials
Well. Paul Ryan is not looking good in his district.
Too bad. Years ago I thought he had possibilities. Then , he started carrying O’s water.
oh my….well, it’s happened before.
I think Paul Ryan wears 2 faces.
I don’t know what to think of Ryan…he really didn’t want to be Speaker, now he’s on the hot seat. He’s a good man, I think..not devious like Boehner, but maybe not the best for the job.
